The morning after the overnight storm
the zucchini and baby squash plants,
that spent all of last week losing their will to live
turning yellow then grey
dropping undesirably scrunchable leaves
onto the mulch covered soil,
have fashioned new foliage.
Now green, as they should be,
for this short moment in the morning sun
they are unblemished by yesterday’s armies of aphids.
An incoming posse of yellow ladybirds
has begun to survey the new landscape,
happily hunting with intent,
ambling in anticipation,
over, under and around.
On this first day of another week,
I cannot help but wish them well.
